Invitation to Apply for places and grants
Advertisements inviting applications for 12,218 places, over $150 million in zero real interest loans, $41.6 million in capital grants, and Community Care and/or Flexible Care Grants appeared in major metropolitan and leading regional newspapers on Saturday 30 January 2010, and in selected ethno-specific newspapers in the following days.Prospective applicants will be able to contact the Department's Aged Care Information Line on 1800 500 853, (from 8.30am (AEDT) on Monday 1 February 2010), to obtain an Application Kit. The Kit includes the 2009-10 ACAR Essential Guide (incorporating the 2009-10 Regional Distribution of Aged Care Places) and a CD-ROM containing all the relevant 2009-10 application forms.

Places made available
More than 12,000 places, with an estimated annual recurrent funding value of more than $477 million, have been made available through the 2009-10 Aged Care Approvals Round. They comprise 8,140 residential places, 1,582 Community Aged Care places, 1,541 Extended Aged Care at Home packages and 955 Extended Aged Care at Home Dementia packages. Details of the places made available are contained in Table 1.In addition to these places, $41.6 million in capital grants will be made available to enable new or existing services to undertake necessary capital works programs where applicants are able to demonstrate they are unable to meet the full cost of the works from all other sources of finance. Up to $2.4 million has been made available for Community Care and Flexible Care Grants.
A minimum of $150 million in Zero Real Interest Loans in association with an application for new residential aged care places in identified areas of high need, and/or for services which address the needs of people from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, and /or people from non-English speaking backgrounds.
